Bonnier Books UK receives fourteen nominations for the 2019 CILIP Carnegie & Kate Greenaway Medals

Nominations for the CILIP Carnegie & Kate Greenaway Medals 2019, the country’s oldest children’s book awards, were published today.

The awards recognise the outstanding writing and illustration in books for children and young people, with the Carnegie Medal being awarded by CILIP for an outstanding book written in English; and the Kate Greenaway Medal awarded for distinguished illustration.

Over 254 books have been nominated for the 2019 Medals, put forward by a record number of nominators, including CILIP members and several external bodies, such as BookTrust, National Literacy Trust, CLPE and Inclusive Minds.

This year, Bonnier Books UK imprints Hot Key Books and Piccadilly Press received a total of eleven nominations for the Carnegie and Templar Publishing received three for the Kate Greenaway.

Nominated titles from YA imprint Hot Key Books include: Hope is Our Only Wing by Rutendo Tavengerwei, The Red Ribbon by Lucy Adlington, The Electrical Venus by Julie Mayhew, Love Hate & Other Filters by Samira Ahmed, Big Bones by Laura Dockrill, The Distance Between Me and the Cherry Tree by Paola Peretti, My Side of the Diamond by Sally Gardner, No Shame by Anne Cassidy and The Cruel Prince by Holly Black.

Nominated titles from Piccadilly Press include Mark Lowery’s Charlie and Me and Jo Cotterill’s Jelly

Kate Greenaway nominations from Templar Publishing include The Real Boat by Marina Aromshtam, illustrated by Victoria Semykina, and The Rhythm of the Rain by Grahame Baker-Smith – both published under Templar’s Templar Books imprint. The final nomination is for Laura Hawthorne’s The Night Flower, published under Templar’s Big Picture Press imprint.

The longlist is due to be announced on the 18th February 2019, the shortlist on the 18th March, with the medal winners’ announcement on the 17th June.
