Will Embla read my submission?

We will review all submissions that match our callout. We will respond to every submission. We aim to respond within 4 weeks, but please note that due to the size of our team, we may not be able to provide detailed editorial feedback on every manuscript. Please do not resubmit if you haven’t heard from us yet.

Why are we partnering with Storywise?

We want to discover brilliant new talent and fantastic stories and provide authors with an accessible route into publishing through open submissions. We are a small team so partnering with Storywise to assist with administrative tasks makes open submissions possible. How will Embla use Storywise?

We use Storywise to facilitate the administration of open submissions. Storywise assists with workflow management and helps us organise submissions, enabled by AI-assisted tools. This includes workflow management tools to assign, filter, and sort, and to pull out key information like genre, word count, and author information. Storywise also has AI detection functionality to ensure all submissions are original. The platform is designed to support discovery and help authors be seen, not to replace human judgment.

Our editors remain fully responsible for reading and evaluating submissions. All editorial decisions are made by people, not AI, and every submission will receive a response.

What is the Storywise Network?

We do hope your submission will be the right fit for Embla but if it isn’t, you may be offered the option to join the Storywise Network. Through the author discovery network, your manuscript may find a home with another publisher if it matches what they’re looking for, giving you the best chance to get spotted by the right publisher for you. Participation is entirely optional.

Will my submission be used to train AI models?

No, your submission will not be used to train AI models.

Is my IP protected?

Yes, your intellectual property remains safeguarded. Your manuscript will be stored within a secure system where access is strictly limited to us here at Embla. You can request the deletion of your manuscript at any point by contacting us using the details on Embla’s website here. Creative output remains the intellectual property of the author. Please refer to our terms and conditions here for more information.

How will I know if my manuscript has been accepted?

If we like your submission, one of our expert editors will get in touch directly with you via email. If your submission doesn’t match our current callout, we may get in touch with you if we’re looking for something similar in the future.
