Bonnier Books UK acquires official autobiography of Tai Woffinden

Toby Buchan, executive editor at Bonnier Books UK, acquired world, all-language rights for Raw Speed directly from author and triple Speedway World Champion Tai Woffinden and co-author Peter Oakes.

Raw Speed is the official autobiography of Woffingdon and will be published under the John Blake imprint. Raw Speed is written with Peter Oakes — an award-winning Fleet Street journalist, long-time speedway fan and leading columnist at Speedway Star (the world’s top-selling magazine for the sport).

Tai Woffinden is one of speedway’s biggest stars. Following in his late father’s footsteps, Tai is known for his speed on the tracks and his quirky tattoos. He cuts a popular figure within the sport, with a vast array of titles to his name including youngest ever World Champion — achieved at the age of twenty-three.

“Anyone who has never been to a speedway race has missed one of life’s great spectacles. And no one conveys the noise, speed, colour, drama, skill, courage and danger better than Tai — a highly articulate ambassador for [the] sport …”

Tai has not been without his share of struggles. In 2010, Woffinden lost his father to cancer, which, combined with internal issues within his team, resulted in a difficult season. His autobiography provides an eye-opening insight into that experience and the life of one of speedway’s most exciting talents.

“My story should grab the attention of anyone interested in speedway, motorsports and the life of a sportsman. I am excited that Raw Speed is to be published by Bonnier Books UK.”

Tai said: “I recently broke my neck in a crash in a race in Poland. While recuperating I’ve been putting the final touches to my book, which is a true reflection on my life and career. My story should grab the attention of anyone interested in speedway, motorsports and the life of a sportsman. I am excited that Raw Speed is to be published by Bonnier Books UK.”

Toby Buchan, executive editor at Bonnier Books UK, said: “Anyone who has never been to a speedway race has missed one of life’s great spectacles. And no one conveys the noise, speed, colour, drama, skill, courage and danger better than Tai — a highly articulate ambassador for a sport that makes F1 look like a gentle tour around a supermarket car park.”

Raw Speed will be released in hardback on 19 September 2019.
