Michael Morpurgo joins Jonathan Bryan at the launch of “powerful” memoir, Eye Can Write

On Thursday 11th July, Bonnier Publishing imprint Lagom celebrated the launch of Jonathan Bryan’s “powerful” memoir, Eye Can Write, at Waterstones Piccadilly.

Guests included renowned author, Michael Morpurgo, who wrote the forward for the book, and the Archbishop of Canterbury, who delivered a short prayer.

Bryan is a longstanding fan of Morpurgo, who he was introduced to last year.

Bryan, aged 12, has severe cerebral palsy, a condition that makes him incapable of voluntary movement or speech. He was locked inside his own mind, aware of the outside world but unable to fully communicate with it until he found a way by using his eyes to laboriously choose individual letters, and through this make his thoughts known.

His “inspirational” memoir, Eye Can Write, tells of his intense passion for life, his mischievous sense of fun, his hopes, his fears and what it’s like to be him.

[Jonathan] was determined and set about writing his book himself – one letter at a time – astonishing me and everyone else at Bonnier Publishing in the process.

-Natalie Jerome, Acquisitions Director and Publisher, Bonnier Publishing UK

Natalie Jerome, Acquisitions Director and Publisher, Bonnier Publishing UK said at the event: “Caroline, Jonathan’s agent and I were utterly confounded when Jonathan refused our offer of a ghostwriter to help him tell his story. No, Jonathan had made up his mind. He was determined and set about writing his book himself – one letter at a time – astonishing me and everyone else as Bonnier Publishing in the process. We couldn’t be prouder to be his publisher and I personally couldn’t be prouder to say that I’m his editor.”

Eye Can Write is available on Amazon and from all good book stores in the UK.
