Piccadilly Press and Ade Adepitan to partner with BBC Children in Need

Piccadilly Press, an imprint of Bonnier Books UK, is to publish a second children’s fiction title by Ade Adepitan in partnership with BBC Children in Need.

Publishing in October, Cyborg Cat and the Night Spider is the second book in Adepitan’s Cyborg Cat children’s series — following the publication of his first title in May last year — and the first to be published in partnership with BBC Children in Need.

Adepitan and Piccadilly Press will be donating all profits from the sale of this book to BBC Children in Need, with a guaranteed donation of at least £15,000.

“We’re incredibly grateful to Ade and to Bonnier Books UK for their support. The donations raised will go to make a positive, lasting difference to disadvantaged children and young people in communities across the UK.”

Simon Antrobus, BBC Children in Need chief executive

Adepitan announced the partnership this afternoon (24th May) with Pudsey at his Hay Festival school event to over 1,000 children. BBC Children in Need’s 2019 Appeal will take place in November, with further details on the show being announced in due course.

“I hope Cyborg Cat and the Night Spider will get children all over the UK reading and inspire them to search for their inner superhero!”

Adepitan’s first book in the Cyborg Cat series will also be given a brand-new look and title to celebrate the partnership, with a third book to follow in March 2020. The series is inspired by Adepitan’s school days in East London and celebrates friendship and overcoming adversity — with a superhero twist.

On the partnership with BBC Children in Need Adepitan said: “I feel very privileged to have worked with BBC Children in Need in the past and even more so to now be able to work with them on my new book. I hope Cyborg Cat and the Night Spider will get children all over the UK reading and inspire them to search for their inner superhero!”

BBC Children in Need Chief Executive, Simon Antrobus commented: “We’re incredibly grateful to Ade and to Bonnier Books UK for their support. The donations raised will go to make a positive, lasting difference to disadvantaged children and young people in communities across the UK.”

“Ade’s passion and enthusiasm for inspiring children to read shines through and we look forward to working with BBC Children in Need to help reach a wider audience for his stories.”

Jane Harris, Managing Director of Children’s Trade Publishing, Bonnier Books UK
