Zaffre scoops two new ‘Regency romps’ by Lex Croucher

Zaffre Books, the flagship fiction imprint of Bonnier Books UK, has acquired two new books by Lex Croucher.

Sarah Bauer, senior editor at Zaffre, has acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Chloe Seager at Madeleine Milburn Literary Agency.

Following up on the huge success of their debut, Reputation, Lex Croucher delivers another brilliant Regency romp, with Infamous set to publish this July.

22-year-old aspiring writer Edith ‘Eddie’ Miller and her best friend Rose have always done everything together: climbing trees, throwing grapes at boys, sneaking bottles of wine, practicing kissing . . .

Now that they’re out in society, Rose is suddenly talking about marriage, and Eddie is horrified. When Eddie meets charming, renowned poet – and rival to Lord Byron – Nash Nicholson, he invites her to his crumbling Gothic estate in the countryside. The entourage of eccentric artists indulging in pure hedonism is exactly what Eddie needs in order to finish her novel and make a name for herself.

But Eddie might discover that trying to keep up with the literati isn’t all poems and pleasure…

Sarah Bauer said: ‘‘No one writes Regency like Lex. Being one of the first people to read Infamous was such a treat and I know readers will fall in love with Eddie and Rose instantly, as I did.’

Lex Croucher said: ‘‘I am so happy to be working with the team at Bonnier Books UK again to unleash more Regency reprobates into the world! Infamous is an 1800s misadventure replete with roguish Romantic poets, rebellious artists and young queer women figuring out who they are, and I can’t wait for readers to meet them.’

Chloe Seager said: ‘I could not be more excited that Lex is back with Infamous, another sparkling, subversive and seriously funny take on Regency romance. Hold onto your bonnets!’

Infamous by Lex Croucher will publish in the UK on 21st July 2022 in paperback original, eBook and audio. It will be published by in the US by St Martin’s Press in 2023.
