Hot Key Books launches new podcast to take readers behind the scenes

Hot Key Books is thrilled to announce the launch of its new podcast series, The Hot Key Podcast, on 27 March. New episodes will be published on the last Friday of every month.

The podcast aims to take the Hot Key Books YA audiences behind the scenes of the imprint and will feature discussions and interviews with authors and publishers as they discuss the creative process behind writing and publishing a book. Each episode will also include an extract from a featured audiobook, as well as the latest acquisition news from the publishing team.

The first episode will launch with an interview with Katherine and Elizabeth Corr, co-authors of the ‘dark and glittering’ young adult debut A Throne of Swans, as well as a conversation between Kate Manning, sales, marketing and publicity director for children’s trade at Bonnier Books UK, and Emma Matthewson, executive publisher for Hot Key Books and Piccadilly Press. Manning and Matthewson will discuss the history of Hot Key Books and upcoming books on the list, including internationally bestselling author Garth Nix’s backlist.

‘Launching the new Hot Key Podcast will enable us to reach more readers and open up more discussions about writing, creating, and publishing – which can only be a good thing. It also allows our fantastic audience of readers to see behind the scenes in the publishing house and really become a part of the conversations and discussions we share as a team.’

Future episodes include interviews with Patrice Caldwell, editor of ‘Black Girl Magic’ anthology A Phoenix Must Burn, and Intisar Khanani, author of YA debut Thorn. The podcast will also feature recurring interviews with publishing professionals from across the imprint, as they discuss their work, upcoming projects, and some of the innovative and creative ways that the team and their authors are working to engage with readers while working remotely.

The podcast project is led by creative and marketing assistant Isobel Taylor. On the podcast, Taylor said: ‘I am really happy about embarking on this new, exciting project with Hot Key Books, and I think that the podcast will be a great resource for fans of YA fiction.

‘I believe that it will enable our fantastic community of readers to connect more closely with us as a team, and with our amazing authors and books.’

Kate Manning, Director of Children’s Sales, Marketing and Publicity at Bonnier Books UK, said: ‘Everyone working in the book trade has something in common – we all absolutely adore talking about books. Launching the new Hot Key Podcast will enable us to reach more readers and open up more discussions about writing, creating, and publishing – which can only be a good thing. It also allows our fantastic audience of readers to see behind the scenes in the publishing house and really become a part of the conversations and discussions we share as a team. We can’t wait to welcome them!’
