What are Embla looking for?

We are looking for un-agented authors who are writing in one of THREE commercial genres.

We’re always on the lookout for fantastic stories, and we are looking to find the best new books for 2026.

Debut authors are particularly encouraged to submit. We encourage authors from backgrounds currently underrepresented in publishing (that would include but is not limited to writers from a socio-economically marginalised background, Black, Asian and minority ethnic writers, LGBTQ+ writers or disabled writers.)

We can ONLY accept submissions from writers aged 18 or over.

All Submissions must be the original work of the author. If an author is unable to produce its Submission without third party assistance, they must fully disclose the nature (including name of the third party) and extent of that assistance. We CANNOT accept AI generated manuscripts.

A Twisty Domestic Thriller

We’re looking for a fantastic thriller with a unique hook, full of twists and turns. Dark, twisty concepts with compelling characters and a highly readable voice are essential, this is a book we won’t be able to put down. If you’ve written a propulsive, pulse-racing domestic noir, or an utterly gripping and shocking psychological suspense, we want to hear from you!

Length: 70,000 – 120,000 words.

A Witchy Romance

We’re looking for a cosy and contemporary witchy romance to cast its spell over us. Irresistible and sexy, and set in a small town (US/UK, preferably), it will be brimming with magic, whimsy and charm – and characters you instantly fall for. It could be a standalone or part of a larger world that readers want to curl up with and escape into at the turn of every season.

Length: 70,000 – 90,000.

A Christmas Murder Mystery

A standout psychological thriller set at Christmas, either in the UK or the US, across any of the following genres: thriller, domestic noir, psychological suspense, or locked-room murder mystery

Length: 70,000–120,000 words
