Danny Chung does get longlisted for the Blue Peter Awards

Danny Chung Does Not Do Maths has been longlisted for the influential Blue Peter Book Awards.

Maisie Chan’s heart-warming book, illustrated by Anh Cao, is one of ten contenders in the Best Story category.

Published by Piccadilly Press, Danny Chung Does Not Do Maths tells the tale of cartoon-crazy Danny, and his relationship with his grandmother. The whip-smart novel set in Birmingham balances insights into inter-generational relationships and British Chinese culture with frequent bursts of laugh-out-loud comedy.

The shortlist will be announced on November 11th 2021, with the Best Story contenders trimmed down to just three titles. 200 children from selected schools around the country will then come together to pick the overall winner – set to be announced live on the iconic BBC show in March 2022.

Managed by the reading charity BookTrust, the Blue Peter Book Awards has been running since 2000 and celebrates great reads for children.

The most recent Best Story winner was Elle McNicoll’s sensational A Kind of Spark. Previous winners of the awards include Katherine Rundell, Michael Morpurgo, Matt Haig, and Simon Bartram for the Templar Books favourite Man on the Moon.
