Hot Key Books acquires “brave and hopeful” debut about a life-saving friendship

Hot Key Books, an imprint of Bonnier Zaffre, has acquired a “brave and hopeful” YA debut celebrating strength, survival and the life-saving power of friendship, by rising star Yasmin Rahman.

Against fierce competition from other publishers, Emma Matthewson, Publishing Director, Bonnier Zaffre, acquired world rights – including eBook and audio – from Hellie Ogden at Janklow & Nesbit UK.

I have never read a submission that spoke to me with such power and intensity.

– Jane Harris, Executive Director, Bonnier Zaffre

All The Things We Never Said tells the story of three intensely troubled girls who meet and form an unlikely and literally life-saving friendship – when they join a suicide website.

Jane Harris, Executive Director, said: “I have never read a submission that spoke to me with such power and intensity. I could not put this down. We were thrilled to win the book.”

We could not be more proud or excited to be publishing Yasmin and helping to bring her writing to a worldwide audience.

Emma Matthewson, Publishing Director, Bonnier Zaffre, commented: “Yasmin has a real voice and writes with passion. With Mehreen, Olivia and Cara, she has created three unforgettable characters who all have something to say about the pressures that teens have to face today. We could not be more proud or excited to be publishing Yasmin and helping to bring her writing to a worldwide audience.”

Yasmin Rahman is a British Muslim born and raised in Hertfordshire. As a child, she wanted to be a postwoman, but decided to settle for being an author. She has an MA in Creative Writing from the University of Hertfordshire and an MA in Writing for Young People from Bath Spa University, both with Distinction. Her short story ‘Fortune Favours the Bold’ was published in the Stripes 2017 anthology A Change is Gonna Come, with The Bookseller awarding the contributors a YA Book Prize Special Achievement Award 2018 for commitment to making YA publishing more inclusive. When she’s not writing, Yasmin makes bookish fan art; her designs are sold worldwide on behalf of John Green.

All The Things We Never Said is set to publish in July 2019, under the Hot Key Books imprint.
