Hot Key to publish ‘timely’ thriller about toxic masculinity in schools

Hot Key Books, an imprint of Bonnier Books UK, has acquired a tense and timely revenge thriller interwoven with themes of rape culture and toxic masculinity that will have YA readers on the edge of their seats.
Ella Whiddett, editor at Hot Key Books, acquired UK & commonwealth English language rights to The Sharp Edge of Silence by Cameron Kelly Rosenblum from Alessandra Birch on behalf of Alexandra Levick at Writers House.

Lycroft Phelps is a school with dark secrets at its heart. And when three students’ lives collide following a sexual assault on campus, they uncover just how far their school will go to keep its ugly truths hidden.

Cameron Kelly Rosenblum said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be publishing The Sharp Edge of Silence with Hot Key. My biggest hope for this book is that it provokes conversations around the fraught and often avoided topic of young people and sex. To envision my novel on bookshop shelves and in the hands of UK readers is a true career highpoint.”

Ella Whiddett commented: “The Sharp Edge of Silence is a seething takedown of rape culture and toxic masculinity in schools, told with incredible authenticity and sensitivity through three very different characters’ eyes. Cameron’s writing will hook you, the message will rally you, and the story will stay with you long after you finish reading. We are incredibly proud to bring this important and powerful book to the Hot Key list and UK readers.”

Cameron Kelly Rosenblum grew up in Connecticut and currently lives in Maine. She studied English literature at Kenyon College and earned a master’s in education at Lesley University. Her time as a teacher and children’s librarian inspired her to write for young people. Her debut novel, The Stepping Off Place, was published in 2020. The Sharp Edge of Silence is her UK debut.

The Sharp Edge of Silence will publish in paperback, eBook and audio in April 2023.
