Bonnier’s newly-minted Irish imprint Eriu launches with debut number one

Bonnier Books UK has today launched its new Dublin-based imprint Eriu – named for the Irish goddess who gave her name to Ireland (Éire).
The freshly unveiled imprint has landed an Irish number one in non-fiction this week with its debut publication, Every Day is a Fresh Beginning: Meaningful Poems for Life, selected by Irish actor and influencer Aoibhín Garrihy.

Publishing Director Deirdre Nolan acquired world rights directly from the author in her first acquisition for the imprint.

Described by Cecelia Ahern as ‘a soothing collection to comfort and inspire in those quieter moments of reflection and searching’, Every Day is a Fresh Beginning contains empowering verses of classic and contemporary wisdom taken from a wide range of poets including Emily Bronte, W. B. Yeats, Seamus Heaney, Anne Casey and Jan Brierton.

Deirdre Nolan said: “I’m thrilled that this book, Aoibhín’s debut, is also my debut as publisher with Eriu, and for it to give our new imprint its first number one is wonderful. Aoibhín has taken poetry from its sometimes elitist perch and made it accessible – this is poetry for all, that everyone can enjoy. It’s the perfect example of the type of publishing we’ll be pursuing as we seek out the brilliant, the beautiful and the brave.”

Tim Whiting, managing director, adult trade at Bonnier Books UK said: “What a way to launch a list! With this inspired piece of creative commissioning, beautifully curated by Aoibhín Garrihy and published so brilliantly, Deirdre has shown from the get-go what she will be able to do with Eriu. I have no doubt that this is the first of very many bestsellers.”

Led by Nolan, Eriu plans to publish 10-12 titles each year for the flourishing local market, spanning adult and children’s fiction and non-fiction.

The imprint’s newly revealed logo and brand identity was designed by Tom Leach, creative director at Evoke.

Every Day is a Fresh Beginning: Meaningful Poems for Life is published in hardback, audio and eBook, with the paperback to follow in spring 2023.
