Zaffre acquires dark medical thriller by Hugh Montgomery
Kate Parkin, Managing Director of Adult Trade, acquired world rights to Control from Nigel Stoneman, Head of Development at La Plante Global.
Zaffre, the flagship adult fiction imprint of Bonnier Books UK, has acquired a dark medical thriller from debut author, Hugh Montgomery, a professor and the director of the UCL Centre for Human Health and Performance at University College London.
Kate Parkin, Managing Director of Adult Trade, acquired world rights to Control from Nigel Stoneman, Head of Development at La Plante Global – the company set up by Lynda La Plante to control all of her book, TV and film deals, as well as digital content and production. Nigel Stoneman will also represent the dramatic rights for Control. La Plante describes the book as ‘a suspenseful and frightening thriller.’

Control tells the story of renowned surgeon Michael Trenchard, who is discovered in his office in a locked-in coma, apparently as a result of auto-erotic asphyxiation. It is left to Dr Kash Devan, Trenchard’s young protégé, to uncover the truth. What he discovers is chilling . . .

Montgomery said ‘I love thrillers, and the chance to live inside one was a rare joy. The inspiration for the book comes from my experience as a junior doctor. Hugh Montgomery is a distinguished physician, known for his pioneering genetic research. Outside the field of medicine, he was a founding member of the UK Climate and Health Council and is an endurance expert, who has run three ultra-marathons, scaled the world’s sixth highest mountain, jumped naked from a plane at 14,000 ft and holds the world record for underwater piano playing. Zaffre, Bonnier Books UK’s flagship adult fiction imprint, will publish Control in August 2019.
