Big Picture Press to release latest title in the Welcome to the Museum series

Big Picture Press, an imprint of Bonnier Books UK, has acquired a new title in the Welcome to the Museumseries, Arboretum, in partnership with Kew Gardens.

Joanna McInerney, Head of Big Picture Press, acquired world rights directly from Tony Kirkham, Katie Scott and Kew Gardens.

The latest in the bestselling Welcome to the Museum series, Arboretum will be a stunningly illustrated guide to trees. It will showcase the different types of trees and their features, the ways in which trees communicate, and the life these trees can sustain.

Joanna McInerney said: ‘We are delighted to be working with Tony Kirkham, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and Katie Scott on this wonderful book, the 9th title in our bestselling Welcome to the Museum series. The subject matter is timely, given the welcome increase in public awareness around the importance of trees to our sustainability goals. There is so much yet to be learned about trees, and we hope this book goes some way towards educating young minds.’

Kew said: ‘We are absolutely thrilled to be working with Big Picture Press on a third title in this terrific series. Trees are not only loved by many but are now recognised as being a powerful ally in our battle to reduce climate warming.’

Tony Kirkham added: ‘Trees are amazing plants that have inspired me and fuelled my passion for them since I was a child and being given the opportunity to write Arboretum for Big Picture Press has been a great privilege. The artwork and text in this beautiful book will hopefully inspire more people to look at trees in a different way and make then want to learn more about these denizens of the forest biomes of the world.’

Tony Kirkham MBE VMH was the formerly Head of Arboretum, Gardens & Horticulture Services at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. He is the author of several books.

Katie Scott graduated from University of Brighton in 2011. Her work draws on influences from traditional medical and botanical illustration, both in aesthetic and subject matter. Her work plays with the ideas of scientific uncertainty and speculation, fabricating the inner and outer workings of the world. Her illustrations depict a familiar yet fantasy vision of plants, humans and minerals.

Arboretum will publish exclusively with Kew Gardens in September 2022 and will publish for general release in August 2023.
