Black & White Publishing, an imprint of Bonnier Books UK, is to publish The Art of Living Off-Grid: A Practical Guide to the Huts, Cabins and Bothies of Scotland by BBC Alba presenter Peter MacQueen.

World rights were acquired directly from the author by Ali McBride, publishing director at Black & White Publishing.

Showcasing the country’s most beautiful huts and their stunning locations, Peter travels across Scotland to meet their owners and learn how they made their off-grid dream come true. He will also share stories from his own hut, which he built with his father, overlooking the Hebridean island of Seil. This book will take its readers on an adventure, learning how to live off-grid.

Peter will guide you on how to build your own cosy hut, develop all the skills needed to live self-sufficiently and make the most out of the seasons. Find out the process of building your own hut, from sourcing the right land, to architects and designing the right space for your lifestyle, starting your own self-sufficient garden, chopping and storing wood, foraging, fishing and many other useful skills that will help you live off the land – and the sea!

The Art of Living Off-Grid is the ultimate guide for outdoors lovers and adventurers.

Peter MacQueen said: “Hutting is the Scottish expression of cabin life and I’m excited to share the best of off-grid Scotland and meet those most passionate about it. I hope this book inspires others who dream of living a more simple, wholesome life to start their journey towards building their own hut.”

Ali McBride said: “With the exceptional rise in interest for slow-living and re-connecting with the outdoors, we are delighted to be working with Peter to bring this wonderful guide to hutting to readers. Full of fascinating people and practical advice, it’s the ideal book to begin your dreams of creating a cosy hideaway and Peter is the perfect person for the job of making those dreams a reality.”

Born and raised in Oban on the west coast of Scotland, Peter MacQueen has lived his life in the outdoors. His passion for living off-grid has blossomed and he now presents his BBC Alba TV show Gàrradh Phàdruig from his own hut on the beautiful Argyll coast.

The Art of Living Off-Grid will be published on 9 November 2023.
