Black & White Publishing, an imprint of Bonnier Books UK, has acquired Pace Yourself by award-winning writer and science journalist, Amy Arthur.
Susanna Abbott, publishing director at Black & White, acquired UK & Commonwealth rights from Emma Bal at the Madeleine Milburn Literary, TV & Film Agency, at auction.
In these times of unprecedented stress, burnout and fatigue Pace Yourself offers a powerful lifeline in the form of pacing, a simple, science-based tool, to help restore joy, energy and balance in our lives. Written by Amy Arthur, an award-winning writer and science journalist, Arthur shares not just the science of pacing and how it works, but also shows how to use pacing in our daily lives to thrive, not simply survive.
She also shares her own pacing journey, explaining how it helped her manage the chronic, energy-limiting condition called ME/CFS that she was diagnosed with as a teenager. Unpacking all aspects of personal energy and how we make, spend and save it, Arthur will help readers go from tired-all-the-time to focused and energised by prioritising what matters and adopting energy-building habits and lifestyle hacks – all with the help of pacing.
Amy Arthur said: ‘I am so pleased to be working with Susanna Abbott and the team at Black & White to bring pacing to the burned-out and exhausted general public. There are many things that can cause fatigue, but very little help is currently offered to those who suffer with it. Through Pace Yourself, I want to show that it is possible to have a better, healthier relationship with your energy levels and to take control over your own pace of life.’
Susanna Abbott said: ‘Pacing is a little known yet powerful tool to combat burnout, mental exhaustion and fatigue. Instead of trying to cram in more to meet life’s endless demands, Amy Arthur argues for a radical new approach to living, one that manages our energy not our time. We are delighted to welcome Amy to Black & White and to publish this first book on pacing for general readers.’
Amy Arthur is an award-winning writer and science journalist, with by-lines in outlets like Popular Science, BBC Science Focus and LiveScience. After being diagnosed with ME/CFS as a teenager and on the advice of a doctor, she began using an energy management tool called pacing to help her manage her energy and thrive again.
Pace Yourself will be published in trade paperback, audio and eBook on 28th December 2023.
