Embla Books, the digital-first imprint of Bonnier Books UK, has acquired two Cornish romances from established author, Kate Ryder.
Hannah Smith, editorial director, acquired world English language rights from Hannah Todd at the Madeleine Milburn Literary Agency.
The first book in the deal, Into a Cornish Wind, is a romance with a supernatural element set in the picturesque coastal Cornish town of Fowey. Kate Ryder’s books are perfect for fans of Christina Courteney and Diana Gabaldon.
Ryder has previously published several titles, including Beneath Cornish Skies with Head of Zeus imprint, Aria.
Smith said: ‘Kate Ryder’s stories have always been a perfect escapist read. Filled with her authentic voice, conjuring beautiful Cornish settings and her signature supernatural element, Kate Ryder is a vibrant voice in the market. I am thrilled to be welcoming her to the Embla list and beginning an exciting new stage in her career.’
Ryder added: ‘As someone who believes strongly in working towards a sustainable world, I was initially attracted to Embla because of its parent company Bonnier Books UK’ ethics, integrity and commitment to the future of the planet. I’m delighted to have joined their digital-first imprint with a two-book deal.’
Into a Cornish Wind will publish in eBook and audio in September 2022. The second book under contract will publish in Summer 2023.
