Footnote lands literary ‘sapphic situationship’ novel from acclaimed journalist Daisy Jones

Footnote Press, an imprint of Bonnier Books UK, has the acquired ‘heartfelt’ debut novel from acclaimed journalist Daisy Jones.

Commissioning Editor Serena Arthur pre-empted UK & Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) from Hayley Steed at Janklow & Nesbit.

A Casual Fever is a heartfelt, 2010-set meditation on urban queer relationships, coming-of-age and community that follows magazine journalist Carmen as she stumbles through the exhilaration and uncertainty of falling in love with someone who isn’t ready to commit.

Daisy Jones said: ”I’m beyond thrilled to have found a home for A Casual Fever with Footnote. Their trust and support, as well as that of my brilliant agent Hayley Steed, has allowed me to find the confidence to turn the mess and magic of my twenties into a work of fiction that I hope others can relate to.”

Serena Arthur said: ‘Daisy’s beautifully-written fever dream of a debut is a literary sapphic situationship novel and a poignant exploration of what it sometimes takes to get to the romance that we know is right for us in spite of signs that might say otherwise. I can’t wait to publish it on the Footnote Press list. “

Hayley Steed said: “I’ve always loved Daisy’s writing, but reading her first novel was an absolute treat – it’s full of transportive nostalgia, rich atmosphere and heart-wrenching and relatable yearning.”

Daisy Jones is an author, culture journalist and editor, having previously been on staff at DAZED, VICE and British GQ, with her work regularly appearing in The Guardian. Her first work of non-fiction, All The Things She Said, a history and celebration of lesbian culture, was shortlisted for The Polari First Book Prize in 2022, published by Coronet. Daisy now works as an editor at British Vogue and lives in southeast London with her wife and pet tree frog, Percy.
