Internationally bestselling author Christy Lefteri returns with a dazzling new novel, about a family struggling to recover from trauma, set against the backdrop of the forest fires of Greece.
Manilla Press, the literary imprint of Bonnier Books UK, is thrilled to announce The Book of Fire, the brilliant new novel from the author of The Beekeeper of Aleppo and Songbirds, Christy Lefteri. It was acquired by Margaret Stead, Publisher at Zaffre and Manilla Press, from Marianne Gunn O’Connor of MOGC Literary agency.
The Book of Fire is described as a novel which is intimate and epic, sweeping and delicate, exploring not only the damage wrought by human folly, but also – and ultimately – our powers of redemption and renewal. Internationally acclaimed author of The Tattooist of Auschwitz Heather Morris describes Christy as: ‘A writer of enormous range and power [who] writes with great delicacy and urgency, making us see the world through fresh eyes.’
Christy Lefteri said: ‘I am thrilled that The Book of Fire will be published by Manilla Press this year. This is a story that is so close to my heart, a tale that I felt I needed to write. I am grateful to the amazing team at Bonnier for making this happen and to all the people that I interviewed who taught me something about the world that I didn’t know before.’
Margaret Stead, Publisher, said: ‘The Book of Fire is urgent, beautiful, delicate and redemptive. Christy has chosen to tell a story about the forest fires of Greece as a way of examining climate, but Christy’s novels are always about people, how we can recover from trauma and come to see the world in a new way. It’s ultimately a hopeful novel and one I know her huge number of readers will adore. Working with Christy has been a complete joy and we’re all very excited about publishing The Book of Fire this summer.’
The Book of Fire will be published on 17th August in hardback, eBook and audio.
