Bonnier Books UK has successfully completed its move to new distributor Macmillan Distribution (MDL), the publisher has announced today.
This is the culmination of an extensive 18-month long project that involved moving 3.3 million physical books, as well as extensive technical changes and integrations relating to inventory, stock and sales data.
Jonathan Perdoni, co-CEO of Bonnier Books UK, said: “This project has been a huge undertaking and a massive thanks go to the team involved both here and at MDL, whose hard work has enabled us to reach this milestone.
“We’re looking forward to a long and successful partnership with MDL and are confident that this move will help our ambitious growth plans, which focus on offering best in class service to customers while meeting our sustainability commitments.
“Bonnier Books UK had a very longstanding and productive relationship with our previous distributor Grantham Book Services (GBS) and I would also like to extend my gratitude and best wishes to the team there. They have been hugely supportive in ensuring a smooth transition to MDL, and we wish our friends at GBS all the very best for the future.”
Matthew Hogg, Commercial Director at MDL, said: “We are delighted to now have Bonnier Books UK safely with us, and I echo Jonathan’s praise for the project team who brought us to this point. We’ve been hugely impressed by the way Bonnier Books UK has approached this transition, recognising it as far more than a simple warehouse move.
“Over the past 18 months, significant effort has gone into ensuring the seamless integration of our systems, a full understanding of business processes, and importantly addressing the organisational change and its impact on people. These efforts have placed us in the strongest possible position to move forward in close partnership.
“We look forward to supporting the continued growth and success of the Bonnier Books UK business, and we also extend our sincere thanks to the team at GBS for an exemplary transfer of physical inventory.”
The move will bring a number of benefits and efficiencies across the supply chain and marks another important moment for Bonnier Books UK, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.
