Blink to publish ‘honest and poignant’ memoir by late journalist Sarah Hughes

Blink Publishing, the leading commercial non-fiction imprint of Bonnier Books UK, is set to publish an ‘honest and poignant’ memoir by late journalist Sarah Hughes: Holding Tight, Letting Go.

In early 2021, before Sarah’s death, Editorial Director Susannah Otter acquired World rights from Veronique Baxter at David Higham Associates.

Holding Tight, Letting Go is a celebration of everything that can make up a life, and how to hold it all close when everything feels completely precarious. A book about how to die as much as how to live, it features essays from Sarah on various subjects: from planning your own funeral to the importance of trashy novels, as well as contributions from friends throughout Sarah’s life.

Sarah Hughes was a London-based journalist who regularly contributed to a variety of publications including the Guardian, the Independent, the Independent on Sunday, the Observer and Metro. She specialised in entertainment writing with a particular emphasis on television and was responsible for the Guardian‘s hugely successful ‘Game of Thrones’ blog. She also had considerable experience in lifestyle journalism, writing regularly for the Guardian‘s women’s pages and the Observer news desk.

Susannah Otter said, ‘Sarah was a guiding light for so many, in so many different ways. She really knew what it was to live, fully and completely, with commitment, honesty and joy. It is a huge pleasure, and a colossal honour, to be publishing this luminously funny, honest collection from her with contributions from those who knew her best.

Sarah Hughes said on acquisition: ‘I’m so excited and pleased to be working with Bonnier and Susannah in particular – I love how eclectic her books lists have always been.’

Holding Tight, Letting Go will be published in Hardback, eBook and Audio in March 2022.
